FreeBSD Server updated 4/28/08

With FreeBSD you're in control Set up your own web server using your high speed Internet connection (modem too). Host multiple domain names. Host your own web site without the bandwidth and storage limitations required by your hosting company. This is power, independence and freedom all at the same time.

  Installation CD Available

Programs Plus here to assist with your server needs.

The 'Free' in FreeBSD stands for FREEDOM.
When you set up your own web server you make the decisions. No need to wait for the hosting company to install special script or code for you. You install it when you need it, right at home, on your own server, in the Kitchen, or wherever you set up your computer gear.

The really neat thing about FreeBSD is that you can put your old computers to work. Remember that Pentium you never got rid of in the garage. You can host web sites on it with FreeBSD. It's probably got more storage capability than you're renting now. FreeBSD will even use an old 286 as a terminal. That's pretty cool. Where else you going to find that?

FreeBSD will set up networks using DHCP, but switches are a lot more versatile. Set up your own IP addresses on your network and you've got some old fashioned security you can obfuscate yourself. FreeBSD is designed by real programmers for real users like you and me.

What Can Programs Plus Do For You?
We've put the FreeBSD server on an installation CD. Just insert the CD and install. Then just pick up the phone and call (or text) if you have any questions. We'll take the blame.

FreeBSD is well documented online without all the hype you have to wade through for other operating systems. To host your own web sites you don't need to set up a network, you you can put a server on a single machine. FreeBSD can be set up to use whatever hard drive capacity is on your machine now. Add spare computers later and fill out your network as needed. No problem. FreeBSD is designed with easy, secure, reliable networking expansion capabilities.

There are caveats, though, and we'd like to be of service where we can. Amongst the myriad of combinations, once you figure out where to look it's easy. For most first time users the issues that put the most pressure on their time is figuring out the zone, hosting and configuration files. No worries. We've done it and we can either point you in the right direction or handle the job for you. Also, depending on your ISP, you may need to use a dynamic hosting company and with residential ISP service you can run into bandwidth issues if you try and run commercial volumes of data.
